OJ Johnson

OJ Johnson is a Boise based artist currently majoring in Visual Arts with an emphasis in Sculpture and Art Jewelry and Metalsmithing. Their passions lie in creating playful, kinetic, and wearable adornments as well as exploring the world through the mediums of video and performance art. They currently serve as the Creative Outreach Officer of The Backyard Artists, an arts non-profit organization that focuses on facilitating growth for emerging artists in the community. Throughout their time working for Backyard Artists, they have displayed and created sculptural work to be shown at Surels Place and JUMP. They have exhibited work across the United States, including the Blue galleries, SUB galleries, 518 gallery, Keith and Catherine Stein Luminary. In the summer of 2024, OJ spent time at Penland as a Studio Assistant for Anika Smulovitz’s class titled Adorning the Body. OJ has also been awarded a residency at Penland School of Craft with an additional Operations Assistantship which will take place in January of 2025. When not pursuing their independent work, they can be found fabricating projects at Classic Design Studios in downtown Boise.
