OJ Johnson

OJ Johnson is an artist from Boise, ID- now located in Oakland, CA. They recently graduated with a BFA in Visual Arts, with an emphasis in Sculpture and Art Jewelry & Metalsmithing from Boise State University. Their work blends playfulness, movement, and wearability through various mediums- their favorite being metal. In the summer of 2025, OJ completed a design-and-build internship with the Museum of Outdoor Arts, contributing to large-scale fabrication projects from concept to installation. The previous summer, they assisted at Penland School of Craft as a Studio Assistant for Anika Smulovitz’s class Adorning the Body. After that, OJ was also awarded a residency at Penland in January 2025. Previously, OJ served as the Creative Outreach Officer for The Backyard Artists, a Boise-based arts nonprofit that supports emerging artists through exhibitions, events, and community projects. During that time, they also created and exhibited sculptural works at venues such as Surel’s Place and JUMP. Their work has also been shown across the United States, including the Blue Galleries, SUB Galleries, 518 Gallery, Danaca Design, and the Keith and Catherine Stein Luminary.
